In Case You Missed It: Step Into Queens

Join us this spring as we take you all across Queens to visit five historic houses from the comfort of your own home! We will take you on a special tour of these fascinating sites – showing you both the interior spaces full of history, as well as their charming gardens in bloom.

This program is a joined effort among Bayside Historical Society, King Manor Museum, Greater Ridgewood Historical Society, Queens Historical Society, and the Poppenhusen Institute!

Our program will be live-streamed through YouTube, so it will be very simple to enjoy, no Youtube account is needed! Once you are registered, you will be provided a link to view the program on the day of the event.

Purchase a ticket today to help support your local cultural institutions and historical sites. Those who show extra support will be eligible for a gift bag from the various sites as a way of saying thank you!

Kingsland Homestead:

Join us as we head into our gardens to talk about planting a tree! Raising a tree from seed, to sprout, to sapling, to a mature tree is a process, one the former inhabitants of Kingsland Homestead had to know very well. We will show off the history of the house while we plant one in the garden with Maria Becce, gardener extraordinaire & the trustee of the Queens Historical Society. Visit Them!

Greater Ridgewood Historical Society:

Flushing Avenue: From Farmhouses to Factories

Step back in time and experience history at the Vander Ende-Onderdonk House (c.1709), the last 18th Century Dutch farmhouse on Flushing Avenue. On this virtual tour, you will hear the stories of the families who farmed Long Island, learn about the development of Ridgewood, and see how industry transformed the landscape of Queens, NY. Join us on May 22nd and explore the evolution of a neighborhood through a behind-the-scenes look at objects in our museum, historic photographs, and more. Visit Them!

King Manor Museum:

Join us in Jamaica, Queens to delve into the history of the women who founded King Manor Museum, their world, and the impact work like theirs still has on pink-collar jobs today. We will explore how material culture aligns with issues of early feminism, preservation, domestic practices, race, and class, and you’ll get to know our 19th century Federal home in the process! Step into our leopard-pattern carpeted library and meet anti-slavery founding father Rufus King, have a spot of tea in our parlor, explore the working side of the house and maybe take a catnap in our 1820s bedroom — speaking of cats, you’ll also get to say hello to Mary, our talkative museum rescue cat!
