In Case You Missed It: Small Kitchens, Documentary by Seth Fein

Runtime:
25 minutes

SMALL KITCHENS (2020, 25 mins.) observes the physical connections and social contrasts of kitchen work between a Nepali restaurant and a Mexican food cart a few blocks from each other on the Elmhurst-Jackson Heights border, under the 7 train, on Roosevelt Avenue in Queens. Produced just prior to the coronavirus crisis, Seth Fein‘s documentary now is a time-capsule of work and commerce, food production and consumption, in this most global part of NYC before it became the global epicenter of Covid-19. A New Work Grant from the Queens Council on the Arts funded by NYC’s Department of Cultural Affairs supported this project produced by Fein’s Seven Local Film.  Fein previously screened his documentary diptych BETWEEN NEIGHBORHOODS –– which contemplates the histories of Queens and the World that orbit Robert Moses’s Unisphere in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park since the last New York World’s Fair –– at the QHS in 2018.
