In Case You Missed It: Jazz Music with Phil Ballman

What is Jazz? It’s a question that has been asked, and argued about, ever since the term first came into usage over a century ago. In this session, we’ll delve into the Afro-Caribbean roots of this uniquely American musical art form, and learn about the history and evolution of the music, following the story from its beginnings in New Orleans up until the present day. We’ll also examine the history of jazz in New York City, with a special focus on Queens, the Borough which so many legendary artists have called home.

This  In Your Neighborhood program was hosted by Phil Ballman, Director of Cultural Affairs and Tourism at the Office of the Queens Borough President Donovan Richards on March 27th, 2021.

Ballman serves Queens communities as an internationally recognized cultural event producer with two decades of comprehensive experience presenting and producing world-class programming for major institutions and independent cultural organizations and artists.
