In Case You Missed It!In Your Neighborhood: Greek Orthodox Easter

Date: May 2nd, 2021
Time: 2:30 pm -3:30 pm
Location: Virtual program on Youtube

In this In Your Neighborhood, we bring you to the Greek community in Astoria and Whitestone. The Greek Orthodox Church there observes Easter with a large gathering to symbolize the last days of Jesus.

This gathering is notable for taking place at midnight, the morning of Orthodox Easter. Easter has come and gone for most people in the USA, however, the Greek, as well as other Christian Orthodox congregations follow the Julian calendar, rather than the Gregorian calendar for its Easter dates, which offsets things by about 2 weeks.

Astoria and Whitestone are well known for their Greek Community, and every year they celebrate the Easter Parade. During this In Your Neighborhood program, you will get to experience an inside look at what it’s like to attend. Come and see it for yourself!
