In Case You Missed It: From Queens To Mars

Flyer Image Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech and Vishnu Sridhar In February, the Mars Rover Perseverance landed in the Jezero Crater of the Red Planet.  This feat of humankind’s technological prowess was accomplished by the hardworking engineers at NASA, and one of those is the Queens-born Vishnu Sridhar. Queens is happy to have one of our own contribution to our understanding of the Solar System. Vishnu is from Rego Park, Queens, and is a graduate of Aviation High School and Georgia Tech. His love of aerospace engineering lead him to work at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he worked on Perseverance’s research instrument known as the SuperCam. This camera helps scientists analyze soil samples, by sending back data about their composition for the purpose of investigating possible microbial life forms.  On Saturday, April 3rd, the Queens Historical Society hosted a virtual Q&A with Vishnu, as he talked about his mission on Mars, and answered questions about how growing up in Queens shaped his career journey into space.
