It has been 100 years since F. Scott Fitzegerald published The Great Gatsby. A contemporary tale which has since evolved into a work of great historical importance, Gatsby provides us with an intimate yet detailed account of Long Island life in post World War One America.

It is today regarded as one of the greatest of American novels.

In the novel F. Scott Fitzgerald mentions the Valley of Ashes in Flushing Meadows Park.

The presentation will be given by Queens Borough Historian Jason D. Antos and will focus on The Valley of Ashes which was controlled by the Brooklyn Ash Removal Company and its mysterious owner “Fish Hooks” McCarthy! Introduction to be given by Queens Historical Society’s Board Member, Paul Salerni.
